American Girl Kirsten Doll is being Retired!

Thursday, October 1st, 2009
American Girl is at it again!  They will be retiring another of the original Pleasant Company American Girl dolls.  Kirsten is set to move to the American Girl archives at the end of this year. Of course American Girl is pushing for people to purchase Kirsten and all her items as the only thing that will be available after she is retired is her books.
Last year it was Samantha….this year it will be Kirsten….does that mean that Molly will be next years doll to be archived?
It makes me wonder if perhaps Mattel’s deal when purchasing American Girl was that they have to retire all the original historical dolls.  Does anyone have any idea if this is the case?

Selling 18″ American Girl Doll Packages

Tuesday, July 28th, 2009

I am in the process of “retiring” some of  my beautiful American Girl doll models. The dolls have worked very hard modeling outfits for The Doll Clothes Shop and it is now time for them to find a new home with a young girl to love them. As girls do love clothes and accessories each doll package includes a number of outfits and accessories. Each outfit is individually wrapped with accessories for easy gift giving. It is always fun to have a new outfit around for a special occasion or treat! The doll included is shown modeling each outfit included in the package.

Is the NEW American Girl Doll a Replacement for Samantha?

Friday, May 8th, 2009

American Girl announced a NEW historical doll is arriving on May 31st.

Rumor has it that the new historical doll available the end of the month is a replacement doll for Samantha from the same era.

Should American Girl bring the Samantha doll back?

Wednesday, May 6th, 2009

I have received a lot of correspondence about Samantha’s retirement. All are in agreement that  retiring Samantha was a huge mistake.

Does it make sense that one of the three original American Girl historical dolls would be retired? Did anyone notice how fast her items sold out?

A few years back American Girl announced that Felicity was being retired. The public was outraged and eventually American Girl decided to keep Felicity. This is after the prices for Felicity items sky-rocked on eBay.

So the big question is…will Samantha have the same future as Felicity or will she remain retired?

Personally I feel it is an injustice to retire any of the original three historical dolls. They are the cornerstone of American Girl dolls and should always be part of the line.

When is a girl ready for her first 18” American Girl Doll?

Tuesday, May 5th, 2009

It seems younger girls are now to getting their first 18″ American Girl dolls earlier. American Girl states that they are for 8 year old girls and older. This might have been true in the mid 1980’s when they first came out, but the girls of today are growing up faster.

As an example…a few weeks ago my granddaughter, Maryn stayed over for a few days during school vacation. She informed me that she is quite ready to move up from her Bitty Twins to an 18” American Girl doll. I explained to her that her cousin, Morgan (Maryn’s idol) got her first AG doll when she was six and that is the magic age when she can get one too. Maryn spent lots of time carefully looking over the American Girl catalog from cover to cover and decided she wants a doll that looks just like her. Of course that doll with the blond hair, bangs and hazel eyes is one of the dolls that is retired. Fortunately I figured she would want one just like her so I started looking for one last year. I managed to find two – one in play condition to be her first doll and one in great condition to put away for when she is old enough to really take care of her doll.

What age do you consider the right age for a girl to receive her first 18″ AG doll?
